The North Coast 500 is Scotland’s answer to Route 66 with a\u00a0spectacular coastal route past mountains, beaches and fairytale castles. Perfect for VW campervan holiday hire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We’ve all heard about Route 66 in the USA but now there is NC500 in Scotland which makes a fantastic campervan road trip with stunning backdrops all the way round.\u00a0The\u00a0500-mile route showcases everything that is fantastic about Scotland including native\u00a0foods, drinks, scenery, castles, and of course the stunning highlands.<\/p>\n

Taking in mountain terrains such as Ben Hope and Suilven, castles such as\u00a0Dunrobin Castle and beautiful beaches. In a campervan it should take\u00a0a couple of weeks at a leisurely pace and the route is a great way to explore the Highlands.<\/p>\n

The NC500 – North Coast 500 Route<\/h2>\n

\"Screen<\/a>Starting out on the\u00a0A835 out of Inverness going west to the coast, you follows the coastline up through the North West Highlands and then across the UK’s northern coast\u00a0and then down the\u00a0east coast on the A9 \u00a0to complete your 500 miles back around\u00a0to Inverness.<\/p>\n

Castles<\/h2>\n

\"Dunrobin<\/a>Along the route you will see fairytale castles such as\u00a0Dunrobin Castle above and\u00a0Ardvreck Castle below. Dunrobin Castle is\u00a0set\u00a0on a prominent bluff inland\u00a0from the shore south west of Brora. With its\u00a0fairytale architecture and formal gardens laid out below, \u00a0the sea\u00a0views are breathtaking.<\/p>\n

\"Ardvreck<\/a>Other castles such as\u00a0Ardvreck Castle in Sutherland can also be found along the North Coast 500 route. Dating back to the 16th century, the castle stands on rocks above\u00a0Loch Assynt in the Highlands.<\/p>\n

Beaches<\/h2>\n

\"Sango<\/a>Sango Bay is a stunning cove offering panoramic views of the North Minch.\u00a0The bay features\u00a0golden sands, along with rocky outcrops, dunes and cliffs.\u00a0Sango Bay is a great example of a rocky cove with a beautiful sandy beach.<\/p>\n

Coastal Roads<\/h2>\n

\"Road<\/a>On a great summers day\u00a0\u00a0the views coming over the hills and mountains to the coast are simply breathtaking. The coastal\u00a0roads can be very dramatic as you weave you way across the stark features of the terrain.<\/p>\n
